What these figures are

Every wage on this site comes from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS), May 2025 release. One survey and one release, so any two numbers here are genuinely comparable with each other. The survey asks employers what they pay rather than asking workers what they earn, which is the main reason these figures sit below the numbers on salary-sharing sites.

Nothing is interpolated, averaged across states, or converted between hourly and annual. Where the survey suppresses an estimate this site says so instead of filling the gap. How to read these figures covers what counts as pay, what is excluded, and the four ways this data is commonly misread, and hourly to salary converts a rate to an annual figure.

Common questions

Where does this salary data come from?

Every figure on this site is from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS), May 2025 release. It is an employer survey covering wage and salary workers in nonfarm establishments, which is why the numbers sit below self-reported figures on salary-sharing sites. Nothing here is interpolated or averaged by this site.

Is the median or the mean the better number?

The median, for almost every purpose. It is the salary of the person in the middle, so half earn more and half earn less. The mean is pulled upward by a small number of very high earners, which makes most jobs look better paid than they typically are. Both are published on every occupation page so you can see the gap.

Why is my job not listed?

This site covers 400 of the roughly 830 occupations the survey reports, chosen by employment size and measured search demand. Very small occupations are left out rather than published thin. Job titles also vary by employer, so the work may appear under a different name than the one on your contract.

Are these salaries before or after tax?

Before tax. They are gross pay including base rate, commissions, production bonuses and on-call pay, and they exclude employer benefit contributions, non-production bonuses and overtime premiums.
